Graduated from Bristol University in 1970 with a degree in Economics and Politics, and spent eight years with Courtaulds in Manchester, Munich and Brussels. He was a director of Cooper Callas from 1978 to 2014. Charles lives in North Oxford.

He served as a Trustee from 1999 to 2023 playing a prominent role as Vice Chair and in the Investment Committee.
